Certificate and diploma training for professional massage and spa therapists
Embrace Wellness Therapies runs an international spa and therapy academy in Mumbai for people who want to work as professional massage and spa therapists. We train students in Swedish massage, deep tissue, Ayurvedic therapy, aromatherapy, reflexology and full spa protocol, with certificate courses. Classes run in South Mumbai in small practical batches, and every course ends with an assessed hands-on examination rather than a written test alone.
Most people who search for a massage course in Mumbai are not looking for a hobby class. They are looking for the shortest credible route to a paying job in a five star spa, a wellness clinic, a cruise line or their own practice. That is exactly what this academy is built around. You learn on real bodies from week one, you are taught the anatomy behind each stroke, and you leave with a technique portfolio and a certificate that a spa manager will actually recognise.
We are a working spa first and a training academy second. That matters more than it sounds. Our trainers treat paying clients every week, so what you are taught is current practice in Mumbai spas today, not a syllabus written five years ago.
The academy is the training arm of Embrace Wellness Therapies, a working spa and massage therapy practice based in South Mumbai. We opened training to outside students because spa owners across the city kept asking us the same thing: where do we find therapists who are actually trained properly.
There is no shortage of massage classes in Mumbai. There is a serious shortage of therapists who can hold a 90 minute session with correct posture, read a client's contraindications before touching them, and deliver a deep tissue treatment without wrecking their own thumbs inside two years. Those are the three things our syllabus is built to fix.

You practise in treatment rooms with proper massage tables, with the same linen, oils and room setup you will find in a hotel spa.
Batches are capped so every student gets hands-on correction on every technique, not a demonstration they watch from the back of a room.
Therapist longevity is taught, not assumed. Body mechanics, table height, stance and thumb protection are part of the core syllabus. Most massage careers end early because nobody taught this.
You are graded on a full treatment delivered start to finish, including consultation, draping, pressure control and closing.
Every trainer still treats clients, so techniques are current and so is the advice about what Mumbai spas and clients actually ask for.
Training runs from our South Mumbai centre, which is within easy reach of Colaba, Churchgate, Marine Lines, Charni Road, Grant Road, Tardeo, Worli and Lower Parel. Students travelling from the western and central suburbs reach us directly on the Western and Central lines, which is why we run weekend and evening batch options alongside the weekday ones.
We run four course tracks. Which one is right for you depends on whether you are starting from zero, adding a skill to an existing beauty or fitness career, or already working as a therapist and want to move up to senior or spa manager level.
| Course | Duration | Format | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diploma in Spa and Massage Therapy (Intensive Practical Training) | 90 hours | Weekday or weekend | Career starters who want a full spa menu and better starting salary |
| Specialist short courses | 3 to 7 days each | Weekend | Working therapists adding one modality |

The 3 month diploma is our most popular course and the one most spa employers ask for. It covers everything in the certificate and then adds deep tissue, Ayurvedic Abhyanga, aromatherapy and blending, reflexology, hot stone therapy, body scrubs and wraps, prenatal safety, and the full spa treatment menu as it is actually sold in Mumbai.
You also cover the commercial side: consultation that leads to a correct treatment recommendation, retail and package upselling without pressure, and handling a difficult or uncomfortable client. Spas hire on this as much as on technique.
6 months.
It covers the full diploma syllabus plus advanced deep tissue and sports massage, lymphatic drainage, Thai and Balinese protocols, spa management basics, inventory and treatment costing, team scheduling, and hygiene and safety compliance.
This is also the track for anyone planning to open their own spa or home practice, because it is the only one that teaches the business behind the treatment room.
Short courses run over 3 to 7 days and are open to therapists who already have a base qualification or verifiable experience. Current modules:
Each short course ends with a practical assessment and a module certificate that can be stacked toward the full diploma.
Every course is roughly 70% practical and 30% theory. You are on a massage table, giving or receiving, from the first week. The theory exists to explain what your hands are doing and why a particular client should not receive a particular treatment.

You learn each modality as a complete sequence, not as isolated strokes. That means entry, flow, pressure progression, transitions between body areas and a proper close. You practise on fellow students, on supervised volunteer clients and finally under assessment.
You cover the muscular, skeletal, circulatory and lymphatic systems to the depth a therapist actually needs. The emphasis is applied: which muscle you are working, which direction the lymph moves, why you never work directly over varicose veins, and the full contraindication list for pregnancy, recent surgery, diabetes, hypertension, skin conditions and fever.
You are taught to run a proper intake: health history, pressure preference, problem areas, allergies and consent. You also learn professional draping, personal and room hygiene, boundary setting, and how to manage a client who is uncomfortable or who behaves inappropriately. This section is non-negotiable and it is assessed.
You learn correct stance, table height, use of forearms and elbows instead of thumbs, breathing, and how to sequence a day of back to back appointments without injuring yourself. A therapist who cannot work past 35 has not been trained properly.
You learn how a spa menu is priced, how packages and memberships work, how to recommend a follow up honestly, and how retail is sold without pressure. Spa managers hire therapists who understand this, and it is the single biggest difference between a therapist earning a base salary and one earning well above it.
Every student who passes the practical assessment receives a dated certificate naming the course. The person is eligible to work as a professional certified spa therapist across the spa industry anywhere in India.
No prior qualification is needed for the certificate or the diploma. You need to be 18 or older, physically able to stand and work for a 60 to 90 minute treatment, and comfortable reading and writing basic English or Hindi. That is the whole eligibility list.

Changing careers into wellness, often from retail, hospitality or administration, who want a skill that pays within a few months rather than a few years.
Adding massage and body therapy so they can take higher value bookings instead of only facials, waxing and nails.
Adding sports and deep tissue work to what they already offer clients.
Who learned on the job, never trained formally, and now need a certificate to move to a better spa.
Who want to understand treatment quality properly before they hire and manage a team.
Attendance is the one thing we are strict about. Practical skill is built by repetition under correction, and a student who misses sessions cannot be assessed fairly or passed honestly. If your schedule is unpredictable, take the weekend batch rather than the weekday one.
You are taught by therapists who are still working. Our lead trainers deliver treatments to paying clients every week at Embrace Wellness Therapies, which means the techniques, the client expectations and the pressure preferences you are taught are the ones in use in Mumbai right now.
Training happens in proper treatment rooms, not a classroom with a folding table at the front. You work with professional massage tables at adjustable height, clean linen for every session, the oil and product range used in commercial spas, and the lighting, music and room setup a client experiences. Learning to work in a dim, quiet room at the correct table height is part of the skill.
Batches are deliberately small. Every student gets hands-on correction from a trainer during every practical session, which is the only way posture errors and pressure errors get caught before they become habits. A large batch is cheaper to run and produces weaker therapists.
In the later weeks of the diploma and advanced diploma, students deliver supervised treatments to volunteer clients. This is where the difference shows. Working on a classmate who knows you is very different from working on a stranger who is paying attention to every transition and every awkward pause.
A trained spa therapist in Mumbai can work in a hotel spa, a day spa, a wellness clinic, a salon, a resort, on a cruise line, or independently with home visit clients. Mumbai has one of the deepest spa employment markets in India, and the shortage is of trained therapists, not of jobs.
As an established spa and massage training institute in Mumbai, we have strong connections within the wellness industry and stay informed about emerging job opportunities, sometimes even before they are publicly advertised.
Students who successfully complete their Diploma course and pass the final assessment receive career support, including interview preparation, practical portfolio development, and introductions to spas and wellness centres with current vacancies.
While we do not guarantee employment to every student, those who demonstrate exceptional skills, professionalism, and dedication may receive priority consideration for employment opportunities through our industry network.
Our aim is to prepare students with the practical skills, confidence, and industry exposure needed to build a successful career in the wellness sector.
If you intend to work independently, the advanced diploma covers treatment costing, client record keeping, hygiene standards, safety when doing home visits, and how to build a repeat client base in your own area of the city. Many of our graduates start with home visit clients in their own neighbourhood before taking a salaried role or opening a space.

Students come from Colaba, Churchgate, Marine Lines, Charni Road, Girgaon, Grant Road, Tardeo, Mahalaxmi, Worli, Lower Parel, Dadar and Matunga.
Students travel in from Bandra, Khar, Santacruz, Vile Parle, Andheri, Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali and Borivali.
Students come from Sion, Chembur, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Mulund and Thane, and we also train students travelling from Vashi and Navi Mumbai.
South Mumbai carries a high concentration of five star hotel spas, premium day spas and private wellness clients. Training here means your supervised client practice and your first interviews happen in the part of the city where treatment standards and pay are highest. Students who train in the premium segment tend to start there.
Prospective students are welcome to visit before enrolling. Come and see the training rooms, meet a trainer and ask about assessment and placement in person. We would rather you saw the setup than took our word for it from a website.
A certificate in professional massage therapy takes 4 weeks. A full diploma in spa and massage therapy takes 3 months, and the advanced diploma in spa therapy and spa operations takes 6 months. Specialist short courses for working therapists run from 3 to 7 days.
No. You need to be 18 or older and physically able to deliver a 60 to 90 minute treatment. No prior beauty, fitness or medical qualification is required for the certificate or the diploma. Specialist short courses require an existing base qualification or verifiable experience.
Fees vary by course length and the number of modalities covered. Our certificate, diploma and advanced diploma fees are listed in the fees section above, including what each fee covers and the instalment options available.
Yes. Weekend batches run on Saturday and Sunday for exactly this reason. The syllabus, practical hours, assessment and certificate are identical to the weekday batch.
Our certificates list the modalities covered and the total training hours completed, which is what most international spa employers and cruise lines assess. Requirements differ by country and by employer, so tell us your target market at enrolment and we will tell you what your certificate will and will not cover there.
No honest academy can guarantee a job. What we do is prepare you to pass a practical interview, help you build a treatment portfolio, and introduce you to spas and wellness centres hiring at the time you graduate. Mumbai has a shortage of properly trained therapists, and a graduate who can demonstrate a clean full body treatment is rarely short of options.
Earnings depend on the venue, your modalities and whether you work salaried or independently. Hotel spas and premium day spas pay more than salons, therapists with deep tissue and Ayurvedic skills command more than those with Swedish alone, and most salaried roles include incentives on treatments and retail.
Yes. The 3 month diploma covers Ayurvedic Abhyanga alongside Swedish, deep tissue, aromatherapy, reflexology, hot stone and body wraps, which is the full menu most Mumbai spas actually sell. Ayurvedic modules are also available as standalone short courses.
Yes. Every course is assessed on a complete treatment delivered start to finish, covering consultation, draping, technique, pressure control and closing. There is no certificate without passing the practical assessment.
The academy is based in South Mumbai, within reach of Colaba, Churchgate, Charni Road, Grant Road, Worli, Lower Parel and Dadar, and reachable by both the Western and Central lines. Students are welcome to visit the training rooms before enrolling.
